You know how people say that we usually don’t treasure what we have? Time and time again it proves to be true. How special is the San Francisco City Hall to all of us?
I used to work right across the street from it and never seemed to notice it. The lawns around it were a good place to have lunch on a sunny day, but nothing more than that. To the people living in and around San Francisco who run past it every day it’s often just another building.
Well, what I didn’t know until recently is just how many people from all over the US come to the San Francisco City Hall to get eloped. That’s right, I think almost half of the weddings we shoot at City Hall are actually destination weddings. Some couples have even told us that it is not San Francisco that lured them in, but in fact the beauty of the City Hall.
Katherine and Joseph recently came all the way from Miami for their elopement at the San Francisco City Hall. We got pretty lucky with the weather on this day (as if our weather can ever be nice enough for a visitor from Miami :) Well, the weather was good enough and following their ceremony we left their guests behind to spend a couple of ours driving Katherine and Joseph around to show them our beautiful city and to take photographs at many of the San Francisco sights.

Married!
Majority of the City Hall elopements that we photograph happen on Friday afternoons. Unfortunately it’s a very popular time slot, so the building is always full of people. Katherine and Joseph choose to have their wedding on Tuesday morning, and we were excited to see an absolutely empty City Hall. I’ve always wanted to capture this perspective without people all over the floors, so this made me very happy:
