By the time Jessica and Assaf got in touch with us we’d heard so much about the Oceano Hotel and Spa that we just couldn’t wait to shoot there. We’ve recently photographed a Half Moon Bay Golf Links wedding as well so we knew that we’d be in for a real treat.
Half Moon Bay is one of my favorite Bay Area towns – it has miles of shoreline trails and beautiful beaches. The quaint and artsy main street is full of small shops, cafes, and restaurants. It is so close to the hustle and bustle of San Francisco and Silicon Valley, yet it’s so quiet and peaceful that it feels like it’s part of a completely different world. The Oceano Hotel fits in Half Moon Bay’s image perfectly, so we were naturally curious and excited to shoot in one of this area’s best known hotels. It also happens to be one of the greenest hotels in all of California.
The Oceano Hotel has several gorgeous settings for wedding ceremonies, both indoors and outdoors. Jessica and Assaf’s ceremony was on a secluded lawn which is on a cliff overlooking the bay. Jessica and Assaf had not one but two ceremonies, one following another. We were lucky to have gorgeous soft light from the cloud cover for the ceremonies as well as their portrait photo time.
The venue is located right on the shoreline overlooking Pillar Point Harbor and the rooms have wonderful views of all the sailboats and yachts in the Marina. We learned that on clear days it’s possible to see even as far as Santa Cruz.
It was a bit windy on the day of the wedding and we took full advantage of the Oceano’s enclosed promenade. This lovely area is flooded with natural light from a greenhouse roof and it turned out to be the perfect setting for the family pictures as well as the bridal party shots. It even worked great for the portraits under the beautiful soft light.
